Daryll Hall & Chromeo - I Can’t Go For That
Performed at Daryll’s house.
That’s right, we’re on a first name basis.
Sweet mercy, this is fantastic.
also, attn: music geeks, is that Shawn Pelton on drumkit?
This show has become a favorite of myself and my son over the past month. It’s such a surreal and satisfying hour of television every week (we’ve been watching reruns on Palladia) and by surreal I mean this week we got Daryl’s mom and sister showing us how to make apple sauce while Fitz and the Tantrums jammed with Daryl and the band and a couple weeks ago it was Frank Stallone making meatballs and rapping with Chiddy Bang. It’s just ODD but in the most surprising and amazing ways. If you aren’t watching it go to their website and jump into the archives. You won’t regret it.
And yes, that’s Shawn Pelton on drums. The house band is always phenomenal.
Nick Drake- Place To Be
When I was young, younger than before
I never saw the truth hanging from the door
And now I’m older—see it face to face
And now I’m older—gotta get up clean the place
And I was green, greener than the hill
Where flowers grew and sun shone still
Now I’m darker than the deepest sea
Just hand me down give me a place to be
And I was strong, strong in the sun
I thought I’d see when day was done
Now I’m weaker than the palest blue
Oh so weak in this need for you
Michael Kiwanuka : I’m Getting Ready (by MichaelKiwanukaMusic)
Just watched him on Letterman and fell instantly in love. This is a voice I need to hear much more of.
Everyone should read this - Especially YOU (you know who you are).
I’m not going to pretend I’ve never downloaded from a file sharing site - but these days I buy the music I want to hear because it’s easy, and duh, the quality and diversity of music I get to hear is directly related to the artist’s ability to continue making it.
The article is long but rewarding and enlightening. I couldn’t find any small part more important than another to quote from so I’m quoting only the one humorous, snarky bit that made me lol.
Congratulations, your generation is the first generation in history to rebel by unsticking it to the man and instead sticking it to the weirdo freak musicians!
I am genuinely stunned by this. Since you appear to love first generation Indie Rock, and as a founding member of a first generation Indie Rock band I am now legally obligated to issue this order: kids, lawn, vacate.
You are doing it wrong.
We have roughly 170 followers on here. If everyone reblogs this and then one of their followers reblogs, that’ll be over 300 blogs about our new record, which we’d be outrageously stoked on. If you haven’t bought your copy yet and just downloaded the beast, you’re in luck. The cd is now just 5 bucks at Better Days webstore. hooray!!!

Presenting: the Alabama Shakes and their hit “You Ain’t Alone”. I’m not sure how this lady got the spirits of Otis Redding and Janis Joplin mixed up inside her, but she gone done and did it. Damn gurl!

You don’t need a bullshit sideshow when you can sing like this.

The past 48 hour have been rough, but I’m feeling a bit better so I thought id fill everyone in. After our show in Virginia Beach, we decided to make the drive to Dustin from WTPs parents house. On the way there, in the process of making a right turn, our front left ball joint snapped and bent our…
Whenever my son has gone out on tour for any length of time I have trouble sleeping at night thinking of all the bad things that could happen to him far from home. Sounds like Carridale may make them all happen during one tour! I can’t even imagine how your mom, girlfriend and bandmates are coping Nathan. Take better care of yourself when you get out of the hospital and lay off the ibruprofen!
PS - I donated a little bit to help cover the cost of the ball joint. I hope you have health insurance to cover the ulcer.
Daniel K - You Drive Me Crazy
So, I directed my computer to play some Colin Hay whilst I worked in the kitchen and next thing I knew it had wandered into the cheesy Euro-Pop section of my iTunes.

When he’s not designing, Billy Reid can likely be found hosting a rock ’n’ roll jamboree in his Florence, Alabama-based headquarters, strumming a guitar on his front porch or hitting the road for a musical festival or two. So we couldn’t resist asking him to tell us what has caught his ear lately. Here’s his highly recommended playlist of current faves…

J. Crew is helping me in saluting and supporting a fellow Alabamian, in hopes to prove to the rest of the world that some of us actually do lead successful and sophisticated lives, (I’m obviously referring to Mr. Reid here) as well as wear shoes and use proper sentence structure on a daily basis (with the exception of the occasional “ya’ll” added into our vocabulary…you’ve gotta’ keep it colorful, people!) You don’t see an ounce of red on his neck, do you?
